Mosman Good Design Awards 2007

Winners announced

Congratulations to all the entrants in the Mosman Good Design Awards 2007. Winners were announced at a presentation evening on 15 March at the Mosman Art Gallery. The Mayor, Councillor Wilton was on hand to present the Awards and the judging panel of Robert Staas, Brian McDonald and Peter John Cantrill attended to support their decisions.

Winner: Contribution to the Built Environment

36 Beaconsfield Road by Luigi Rosselli

“An outstanding contribution to the built environment of Mosman, No. 36 Beaconsfield Road contributes to the street with its softly textured stone walls and carefully designed landscape elements. The building form compliments adjoining development by the same firm and encapsulates an earlier cottage without compromising contemporary living standards”.

Commendation: Contribution to the Built Environment

23 Hopetoun Avenue by Corben Architects

“A commendable contribution to the built environment of Mosman, No.23 Hopetoun Avenue is a large family home that takes advantage of a steeply sloping site with outstanding views over Middle Harbour towards Clontarf. The house is characterised by modern clean lines and uncluttered contemporary detailing expressed in a hierarchy of spaces on the many levels of the house. The stepping of the plan and the integration with the landscape articulates the design and assists in its contribution to the surrounding context and streetscape.”

Commendation: Contribution to the Built Environment, and People’s Choice Award

2 Mandolong Road by Wolski Lycenko & Brecknock

“A contemporary example of townhouse development achieving a sympathetic residential form adjacent to an important conservation area. The design is well modulated and articulated incorporating traditional materials in a modern way. The development shows innovative planning to achieve good living amenity at a hight density.”

Commendation: Contribution to the Built Environment

16 Mandolong Road by Melocco & Moore Architects

“A commendable contribution to the built environment of Mosman, No. 16 Mandolong Road demonstrates the use of contemporary design in relation to an existing heritage item. The old house is book ended with contemporary forms that remain subsidiary to its presentation to the street. Formal and informal living areas are well integrated through the existing building and into the extensions. Landscaping is used to separate the various elements of the development”.

Commendation: Heritage Conservation

33 Orlando Avenue by Luisa Manfredini

“For the enhancement of a modified house within the Orlando Avenue conservation area. Reinstatement of street presentation and removal of detracting finishes and details”.
